Introducing: Coffee Break with Emilee Wilson
Today, we want to introduce a new weekly segment by second-year architecture student Emilee Wilson. Every Wednesday, Emilee will transform her varied interests into a column about what to do/read/watch while taking a break from our studio-related responsibilities. Enjoy!
Taking a coffee break? Good, you deserve it. Here you are free from studio, people, and everything that has been gnawing at your insides. So relax, and enjoy!
First, take a moment to soothe your soul with a video of baby animals and calming music.
In the world of blogs, The Burning House is complicated and insightful. The blog asks people to assemble what they would save if their house were burning down and submit a picture. The photos are lovely collections of what people cannot live without. Visit the blog here. What would you take with you?
I love Steve Martin. He is such a talent and a great writer. My favorite of his many publications, and also his first, is Cruel Shoes. Printed in 1977, Cruel Shoes is a collection of short stories that are satirical, witty, a little dark, but mostly hilarious. It is a quick read and can be read, in its entirety, in a couple of hours (Perfect for people with little time for pleasure reading).
And for the rest of this week when you need something new to distract you for exactly 128 minutes- this movie: Inside Daisy Clover is incredible. Watch it now. Daisy Clover is a fifteen year old girl who becomes a movie star in in the 1930’s only to finds Hollywood’s sparkling exterior is hiding all sorts of shade and sadness. Natalie Wood, Robert Redford, and Christopher Plummer are amazing and heartbreaking. Fair warning, there is some singing…and dancing….but not much and it is evenly balanced with mental breakdowns, drugs, and affairs so don’t worry.
