The Triplets of Belleville is a work of great voice with little dialogue. Madame Souza raises and coaches her grandson to be a great cyclist and compete in the Tour de France. When he goes missing during the race, Madame Souza and her dog, Bruno, travel across the country to find him again. On her way, she meets The triplets of Belleville; sisters that were once stars of the 1930’s jazz scene. Though it premiered in 2003, this exquisitely animated film has the style and beauty of being drawn in the 1960’s. It is truly a visual masterpiece with no real dialogue. Instead it is narrated by compositions and the romantic ambiance of France. Sylvain Chomet creates a masterpiece of 2-dimensional art that is both charming and entertaining. Kick off fall break with the most visually and audibly interesting film of the more recent years- it’ll make your heart happy.
